University Colorado – Boulder awarded GOTV funding

A UC-Boulder event named  “Exercise Your Right to Vote” will be held on the University of Colorado campus for its’ second year in the University Memorial Center.   The event will take place on Friday, October 5th from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. This event will be one of the last big get out your vote and register to vote events before the deadline to turn in voter registration forms.

The event last year began with a presentation focused on U.S. Women’s Suffrage and stressed the fact that women in the United States only got their right to vote a little less than 100 years ago.  This is easily forgotten. The presentation shifted its’ attention on Women’s rights in the U.S. in comparison to the right women have in other countries.

The event guaranteed that 100 percent of the participants were up to date on their registration and registered. This event hopefully led to the women participants  awareness of their involvement in politics and encouraged voter turnout from these participants.

To increase the event participant turnout, the event has been opened  up to include three fitness classes instead of just one. Participants this year will have the chance to take a Cardio Kickboxing class, a Zumba class, a Hip Hop class or all three! The addition of these two classes was the reason why the name of event changed from “Dance Toward Democracy” to “Exercise your Right to Vote.” The event will begin with a short presentation and discussion as the previous year did, followed by the three exciting fitness classes. The event will end with voter registration! The best thing about this event is that it encourages women to be involved, registered, and actually get out there to vote. I hope the event makes a difference to the women on campus not only that day but also the days leading up to the big election day!

This event is also pulling in partnerships with New Era Colorado and the CU Women’s Resource Center.
